Thin "prickly" hair coat exhibited by some copper deficient Saanens
![]() #1 & 2 - This isn't an easy one to get a picture of. You have to see it. Long "guard" like hairs grow almost straight out without benefit of an undercoat. You can almost see skin under the sparse coat. It is particularly evident in Saanens that have been clipped for show. They almost look cold all the time. |

I didn't get a photo of this young doe soon enough. I gave her a copper bolus about a month before these pictures, and her show clip has grown out enough so that the contrast of the standing hairs isn't obvious in photos. |
